Snowbird

The name "Snowbird" refers to the eagle feather appearance of the 2009 snowflake. Not only is this bird our national symbol, but it is a migratory bird, a "snowbird" which flies south for the winter months. I created it in memory of my mother, the ultimate snowbird, who lived six months in St. Petersburg, Florida and six months in Lancaster, Ohio.

Snowbird is made of 102 separate pieces of wood, 48 pieces of black gum from Florida (light wood) and 54 pieces of black walnut from Ohio (dark wood). It is about 4" (90mm) in diameter and has an especially clear finish.
