The 2000 design, a six-piece snowflake, is made from the heartwood of the exotic Brazilian purpleheart tree. A common wood in Mexico, Central and South America, it is quite unusual in the US. The purple color comes from resins in the wood that give it exceptional wear and weather resistance. Its primary use is for flooring, outdoor furniture, tool handles and boat docks. The natural color is a rich purple but if exposed to ultraviolet light (sunlight) it turns a warm chocolate brown. It is approximately 3-1/2" (90 mm) in diameter. The natural wood is finished with clear acrylic over shellac.
